We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic individual to be a hands-on BI Tech Lead and thought leader for our Business Intelligence Team as we transform Acuity Brands analytics and migrate our BI platform to Azure and Power BI. This position will be responsible for the team’s ability todesign, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve data pipelines while coming up with innovative solutions to data profile source systems. Day to day the tech lead will lead designs of major software components, systems, and features, mentor and train other team members on design techniques, and coding standards, manage team projects, priorities, deadlines and deliverables through technical direction, functional direction, and building team consensus.


  • Interface with PM, BA, BI Developers, and Test Engineer to build data pipelines, data services and analytics services, leveraging our Azure data architecture (SQL DW, AAS, Data Bricks, Data Lake Storage, Data Factory).

  • Oversee all BI project architectural design and implementations across Acuity business functions. Insure that architectural designs adhere to standards/principles and follow usability design standards.

  • Design, develop, test, and update data pipelines (ETL, replication, change data capture)

  • Review and approve design packages and provide guidance of development to staff throughout the construction phase of projects.

  • Document and share technical best practices / insights with BI team for building skills on current and emerging technologies.

  • Minimize technical exposure and risk on projects.

Required Skills


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other technical/analytical field (or equivalent experience)

  • 4+ years of BI experience

  • Experience overseeing multiple projects from a technical perspective.

  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with performance tuning, monitoring, capacity planning, replication, connectivity and security management on cloud BI platforms.

  • Strong Data architecture and modeling experience.

  • Experience with BI / Reporting and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Qlik, etc.).

  • Experience with Python, SQL, Shell Scripting, Power Shell Scripting or C#.

Other Skills & Benefits


  • Experience with any of the following: Cloud IaaS/PaaS, Azure, O365, Cloud Integration etc.

  • 2+ years of working with Microsoft BI stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and T-SQL)

  • 2+ years of experience building BI solutions in Azure (Data Factory, Data Lake, USQL, SQL DW, Data Bricks etc)

  • Strong MS SQL DBA or Spark experience and exposure with columnar indexed databases.

  • Strong experience with Python, Shell Scripting, or Power Shell Scripting
