About this Team

Acuity Brands is seeking software engineers with SRE/DevOps experience to join its SRE/ DevOps team in the growing Atrius IoT program. As a member of the team, you will bring your passion for building fault tolerant and reliable systems to help us design, deploy, scale, and maintain highly available distributed sensory networks and companion cloud applications.

Our team’s scope is broad, covering our technology stack from end to end, but our focus is to quantify and improve availability, reliability, agility, and performance of our products and services. This is done through contribution to general product design, technical architecture, and process in close collaboration and open communication across functional boundaries throughout our organization.

How you will contribute:

The SRE role is an opportunity to apply your unique combination of technical system design and software engineering skills to novel reliability problems facing our products and services. While doing so you will work with a broad array of technology and business experts to leave a lasting impact on our customer’s sustainability, building operations, and business intelligence initiatives.

Your Responsibilities :

  • Monitor and manage uptime, end-to-end performance, and operability of Atrius services and dependent infrastructure to meet SLAs.

  • Define means of characterizing, measuring, and monitoring SLIs and SLOs.

  • Act as escalation point for critical service issues. Lead and participate in sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortems.

  • Support proactive service maintenance and problem diagnosis, along with guiding and aiding in problem remediation.

  • Partner with development teams to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure using best practices.

  • Actively engage with product, platform, QA, and security team throughout the software lifecycle to deliver observable, reliable, scalable, and compliant systems.

  • Drive continuous improvement by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.

Qualified Applicants will have:

  • 3+ years of software engineering and SRE / DevOps experience.

  • 3+ years of programming experience in any of C#, Python, or Go.

  • Proficiency in at least one cloud environment is a must – Azure is a big plus.

  • A system operations mindset, with emphasis on keeping things ‘up’.

  • Ability to work laterally with other teams to characterize and track problems, help troubleshooting and identify root causes, and collaborate to address them.

  • Ability to participate and lead incident resolution efforts and subsequent postmortems.

  • Clear understanding of automation, change management and disaster recovery principles.

  • Solid understanding of ALM in a cloud native context with configuration / infrastructure as code principles.

  • Experience with monitoring platforms (Datadog, Prometheus, Splunk etc.)

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, AKS etc.)

  • Experience with CI / CD pipelines and GitOps tools / frameworks.

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • Ability to learn on the job and explore new technologies with little supervision.

  • A passion for solving complex problems, identifying root causes, and for leaving things in a better place than you found it.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with IoT networks.

  • Experience deploying or operating solutions on Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

  • Experience in business continuity, security, and compliance.

  • Experience negotiating and defining SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs in collaboration with product owners.

The range for this position is $112,200.00 to $252,200.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
